The Baggage Company of New York - Preparing your Shipment
Thank you for selecting The Baggage Company of New York to arrange the shipment of your personal
effects. The following notes have been compiled to assist you with your shipment.
Packing: We would advise you to allow sufficient clothing or similar soft materials to wrap
fragile items or alternately we supply bubble wrap and paper (charged upon use). We would
recommend that you place all fragile items in the center of the carton away from all edges.
PLEASE ENSURE THAT CARTONS CAN BE LIFTED AND CARRIED BY ONE MAN. If you do have a large quantity
of books or similar heavy articles, please advise so that we can supply you with a more manageable
size BOOK CARTON.
Marking of Cartons: We would recommend that you clearly number each carton as you pack. When
complete, please ensure that you clearly indicate with a marker on each carton, YOUR FULL NAME,
DESTINATION TOWN, COUNTRY, PHONE NUMBER AND YOUR BOOKING REFERENCE. If you are not able to do this, please ask
the driver to mark your cartons before leaving your premises.
Scheduling Your Pickup: When you are ready to schedule a pick-up date/time, please telephone our
office. We arrange pick-ups for a time that suits you, Monday to Friday between the hours of 9:00
AM and 5:00 PM. Although it is advisable to pre-book your pick-up 2-3 days in advance, we can
arrange pick-ups at short notice.
Documentation:
We will require the following documentation to be completed or provided by you in
order to arrange customs clearance and a trouble-free transit to your destination.
The following documents will be provided to you by our movers on the day of your pick-up:
- Inventory/Packing List:
Under each numbered carton, please provide a brief description of items packed in our cartons/cases.
- Shipping Instruction: This form is your instructions to use as to where to send
your shipment
and how to contact you or your relatives/friends to expedite customs clearance and to pre-book
delivery at destination.
- Certificate of Insurance: We always recommend that goods are covered
by an insurance policy and valued for their "full replacement value at destination". However, the
choice of insurance is yours and if you do not wish to insure, please indicate this on the
shipping instructions form. Should you wish not to insure your goods, do not complete any values
on our packing list/insurance proposal form. For details of premiums/coverage, please refer to
our original quotation.
- Customs Forms: For shipment to Australia, New Zealand, South Africa
and the UK, please complete the enclosed customs forms. Should you require assistance, please
contact one of our staff. For other destinations/countries, customs forms are not available and
must be completed at destination, supplied by our overseas agent.
- Appointment of Nominee: If
you do not intend to be at destination on arrival of your effects, please nominate either a
relative or friend to accept your shipment and to complete any additional paperwork that may be
necessary. You should complete the enclosed Appointment of Nominee Form and return it to us along
with the rest of your papers.
- Copies of Passports: We require a photocopy of all passports;
this should be the photo/detail page plus any visa pages if you do not hold a passport for your
destination country. For consignments to AUSTRALIA we also require photocopy of all stamped
pages.
- Cash: We accept cash in full or part payment of your account and will give you a
receipt.
- Checks: We accept personal checks so long as they are drawn on a US bank. There is a
clearing period of 5 business days and all shipments will be held whilst checks are being cleared.
We also accept traveler's checks.
- Credit/Debit Cards: We accept all major debit and credit
cards; we do not make a surcharge for credit card transactions.
- Bank Transfer: If you wish to make a payment by Bank Transfer,
please contact our office for our banking information.
Please ensure that you obtain a receipt for funds paid and advise our office when payment has been
made. We will require the date payment was made, the amount and the branch. We would also
recommend that you quote your booking reference on the payment voucher.
